Alentejo Region

Alentejo Region

With roots dating back to the Roman period, the Alentejo combines ancestral tradition with a contemporary approach to viticulture, establishing itself as one of the most emblematic regions in the production of premium Portuguese wines.

Characterized by vast plains, diverse soils, and a sunny Mediterranean climate, the Alentejo creates ideal conditions for the production of Alentejo wines with great aromatic intensity and balance. The geological diversity—which includes schist, granite, clay, and limestone—associated with significant temperature variations contributes to wines with an enveloping structure and a distinct identity.

Among the Portuguese grape varieties that define the region’s style, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, and Trincadeira stand out, responsible for structured and expressive red wines, while Antão Vaz and Arinto produce fresh, elegant, and balanced white wines.

Today, the Alentejo is one of the most dynamic of the Portuguese wine regions, internationally recognized for the consistency and authenticity of its premium Portuguese wines.
